Specs & quoteHow to Choose the Right Air Compressor for Your Application
Selecting the correct compressor comes down to two key parameters: free air delivery (FAD) — how much air the compressor produces, measured in m³/min — and working pressure, measured in bar. Every tool, valve, cylinder and process in your plant has an air demand. Total those demands, add a 25–30% headroom allowance, and match to the compressor's FAD at your required pressure.
Power rating is a guide, not the spec. Two compressors with the same kW rating can have meaningfully different FAD depending on air end design, drive configuration and compression efficiency. Always compare FAD at the pressure you actually operate, not just motor size.
Budget Air vs TryComp — Which Brand is Right for You?
Budget Air is the right choice if you need a reliable industrial screw compressor at the lowest possible capital cost. It's a belt drive, oil-injected machine with a 5-year air end warranty — solid industrial quality without the premium price. Best suited to workshops, packhouses, light manufacturing and operations that run single-shift patterns.
TryComp is the right choice when your operation runs compressed air continuously — two or three shifts, all day, every day. The direct drive configuration, IE3 motor, advanced PLC, and oversized cooling system are designed for high duty cycle environments where a less capable compressor would wear prematurely. The total cost of ownership over 5–10 years favours TryComp heavily in high-utilisation applications.
Altitude Matters — Especially in Gauteng
If your site is in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Rustenburg or anywhere on the highveld, your compressor's actual air delivery will be lower than its sea-level rated FAD. At 1,750m (typical Gauteng altitude), a compressor delivers approximately 80–85% of its sea-level rated output. We apply altitude derating to every compressor sizing recommendation — so what you order is what your site actually needs.
