Altitude and Site Conditions — Why It Matters

South Africa's highveld — including Johannesburg, Pretoria, and most of Gauteng — sits at between 1,400m and 1,800m above sea level. At this altitude, air is less dense, which means a compressor's actual free air delivery (FAD) is lower than its rated output at sea level. If you're buying an air compressor for a site in Johannesburg and your supplier hasn't applied an altitude derating to the sizing, you may end up short on air capacity.
